Filmabend:
Filmabend is a weekly film screening of german language films for German Club members. These films are almost always imports from Germany, Austria or Switzerland, but on occasion we will also screen other films that are dubbed in German. The films we watch are in German with English subtitles (when possible.) Filmabend takes place on a weekly basis during the Spring and Fall Semesters. There are two screenings per film per week. The first screening of the week takes place on Mondays at 7:30PM in room 114 Van Hise Hall. The second screening of the week takes place on Tuesdays at 7:30PM in room 114 Van Hise Hall (with some exceptions--see the detailed schedule for more info).

Stammtisch:
Stammtisch provides a chance for German speakers of all levels (from 1st semester German to native speakers!) to practice German on a regular basis with students, faculty members and other friends of the German Club in an informal, relaxed environment. Show up whenever you want, leave whenever you want. All are welcome.
When the weather is pleasant and warm, Stammtisch usually meets outside on the Memorial Union Terrace above the Hoofers Boathouse at around 8:30PM every Thursday. Just listen for the people speaking German at the picnic tables! If the weather is bad or cold, Stammtisch meets inside, in the Stiftskeller or Paul Bunyan Room . If you have any questions just contact us.

Stockwerk Deutsch Dinners:
Come and speak German with the students of Stockwerk Deutsch, UW-Madison’s German language immersion floor in Adams Hall. We have weekly dinners on Monday and every other Tuesday at 5:30pm at Frank’s Place (aka: Holt Commons), the nearby student cafeteria. Come and join them at your leisure, or if you're interested in getting a free meal, please contact Christoph Weber by email christoph.weber@housing.wisc.edu to schedule a dinner meeting. Each year the German Club organizes a Fasching/Karneval event. This event is a celebration of the German Fasching and Karneval tradition and takes place in the Tripp Commons of the Memorial Union. There is live & DJ'ed music, dancing and refreshments. Guests are requested to dress up in costume as per the tradition, and there is a costume contest. A small presentation of the history of Karneval is also given. In 2008, the Fasching/Karneval celebration was held on Thursday, January 31st in the Memorial Union - Tripp Commons. Pictures from 2008 are located in the photos section.

While these parties sometimes take place on campus, they often take place at the Essen Haus restaurant just off the capitol square.
Other Events:
Theatrical Presentations:
The German Department occasionally organizes a German Play which is put on by students and often a guest director. The play for Spring 2007 was Glaube Liebe Hoffnung [Faith Love Hope], by Ödön von Horváth. The guest director was Manfred Roth, from Germany.
